PREVENTATIVE SERVICES
Continuous care — because great oral health is an ongoing journey
What most people call a "dental cleaning" is really just one part of a much bigger picture. Our Continuous Care visits are a comprehensive, proactive approach to your oral health — combining professional cleaning, thorough assessment, early detection, and personalized preventative treatments all in one appointment. We believe prevention is the most powerful tool we have, and every visit is an opportunity to protect your smile for the long term.
OUR PREVENTATIVE SERVICES
Dental Cleaning
A professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar buildup that regular brushing and flossing can't reach. This reduces your risk of cavities, gum disease, and bad breath while leaving your teeth feeling fresh and polished.
Periodontal Maintenance
For patients who have been treated for gum disease, periodontal maintenance is an ongoing program to keep the condition from progressing. These visits are more thorough than a standard cleaning and include careful monitoring of gum and bone health.
Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays allow us to see between teeth, below the gumline, and inside the jaw, areas that are invisible to the naked eye. They use up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays and help us catch small problems before they become big ones.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Complimentary at every visit
Oral cancer is highly treatable when caught early. At every visit, we perform a standard, painless screening of the lips, tongue, cheeks, and throat to look for any unusual changes or warning signs. Early detection can be life-changing.
Fluoride Varnish
Beneficial for nearly every patient
Fluoride varnish is a quick, professional-strength fluoride treatment applied to the teeth after cleaning. It strengthens enamel, reduces the risk of cavities, and can even help reverse early-stage decay. It's simple, painless, and effective for patients of all ages.
Sealants
For adults and kids
Sealants are a thin, protective coating painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth to prevent food and bacteria from getting into hard-to-clean grooves. They're a smart, cost-effective way to guard against cavities, and they're not just for kids!
Desensitizer
If hot, cold, or sweet foods cause you pain or discomfort, a professional desensitizing treatment can help. Applied directly to sensitive areas, it works by blocking the pathways that trigger sensitivity, providing relief that lasts far longer than over-the-counter products.
Curodont
Curodont is an innovative biomimetic treatment that can actually help remineralize and repair early-stage cavities without a drill. Using self-assembling peptide technology, it encourages your tooth to rebuild itself naturally, allowing us to treat decay in its earliest stages noninvasively.
Night Guards
If you clench or grind your teeth at night (a condition called bruxism), a custom-fitted night guard can protect your teeth from wear, reduce jaw pain, and prevent headaches. Unlike store-bought options, a custom night guard is made from a precise (often digital) impression of your teeth for a comfortable, secure fit that actually works.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often should I come in for a Continuous Care visit?
Most patients benefit from visiting every six months, but the right schedule depends on your individual oral health. Patients with a history of gum disease, high cavity risk, or other ongoing concerns may need more frequent visits — sometimes every three to four months. We'll work with you to determine what's right for you and stay ahead of any issues before they develop.
Does my insurance cover preventative services?
Most dental insurance plans cover preventative services — like cleanings, X-rays, and oral cancer screenings — at 100%, because insurers recognize that prevention is far less costly than treatment. Coverage for services like fluoride, sealants, or night guards can vary by plan. Keep in mind that every insurance policy is different. Our team is happy to review your benefits before your appointment upon request, so there are no surprises.
Is fluoride safe for adults?
Yes — fluoride is safe and beneficial for patients of all ages. Professional fluoride varnish uses a carefully controlled amount that strengthens enamel and protects against decay. It's been studied extensively and endorsed by the American Dental Association. Many adults actually benefit more from fluoride than they realize, especially those with a history of cavities, dry mouth, or exposed root surfaces.
I don't have any tooth pain. Do I still need to come in regularly?
Absolutely. Many dental issues — including cavities, gum disease, and even oral cancer — develop silently and painlessly in their early stages. By the time discomfort sets in, the condition has often progressed significantly. Regular visits allow us to catch and address problems while they're small, saving you time, discomfort, and money down the road. No pain doesn't mean no problem.
What's the difference between a regular cleaning and periodontal maintenance?
A standard professional dental cleaning (called a prophylaxis) is designed for patients with healthy gums and focuses on removing plaque and tartar from above and just below the gumline. Periodontal maintenance is a more involved cleaning prescribed to patients who have previously been treated for gum disease. It includes deeper cleaning of the pockets around teeth, detailed measurements of gum health, and closer monitoring. These visits are typically recommended more frequently than a standard cleaning.
